Community Center Opens in Villages of Fruitland Park

FRUITLAND PARK — The Villages opened its first community recreation center in the Village of Pine Ridge with more than 30 city officials, Villages cheerleaders, neighbors and two of the first 19 residents to move into the new community.

Some 4,000 residents are expected to move in this year in 2,050 new homes and three community recreation centers.

Villages Vice President of Operations Gary Lester emceed the event as Fruitland Park Mayor Chris Bell and commissioners John Gunter and Chris Cheshire cut the ribbon with City Manager Gary La Venia.

As of Friday, Fruitland Park has issued 354 residential building permits since construction began on March 3 and 175 Certificates of Occupancy for completed new homes.
