Fruitland Park Police Chief Michael Fewless

Fruitland Park will swear in Police Chief Michael Fewless tonight at the commission meeting, starting at 7 p.m.

Fewless, 55, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Religion from Liberty University in Virginia and joined the Sheriff’s Office in 1985. He currently heads the Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX), one of more than 70 Homeland Security “fusion centers” located throughout the U.S. to help coordinate intelligence information between local and federal agencies to combat terrorism.

Over his 30-year career with Orange County, Fewless has twice headed the agency’s Internal Affairs division and served as director of the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division and as Watch Commander.

Mayor Chris Bell will do the swearing-in.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. and residents are encouraged to attend.
