Villages Delays Closing on Pine Ridge Dairy Tract

Fruitland Park — The Villages has requested an extension of its contract to acquire the Pine Ridge Dairy Tract in Fruitland Park.

Gary Moyer, Vice President of Development at The Villages, said he requested the extension Thursday afternoon. As of Thursday evening the property owner and prospective seller, Pine Ridge Dairy, Inc., had not yet responded to the request.

“We are still in our due diligence period,” Moyer explained.

The site, which totals 987 acres, is owned by Pine Ridge Dairy, Inc., whose president, Dr. Charles L. Roesel, headed the First Baptist Church of Leesburg for more than 30 years. Roesel approached The Villages in June with an offer to sell the property, which was annexed into the city of Fruitland Park in 2006.

The Villages has proposed to acquire about two-thirds of the property for development of 2,038 new homes.
The Villages had expected to close on the contract by October 20. Moyer said he expects to complete the acquisition “within the next few months.”
